Dove- discover the beauty in you!

Dove- you are more beautiful than you think.

Dove is one of the most successful brands that have started a revolution when it comes to make women feel confident and beautiful from within. Dove, as a brand, been winning hearts of a million women with its evocative and inspiring advertisements showing that it cares for the women. The brand's 'Real Beauty' campaign has been breaking records since 2004. The campaign's impact extended more than just promoting their product. It is continuously working towards changing the perception of women about themselves.

2013 witnessed the journey of one of the most beautiful and thoughtful campaigns ever created- Sketches. It focused on the way a woman describes her perception of beauty when she thinks about herself. The 3 minutes long ad-film became one of the most loved videos on internet. The video has been viewed more than 114 million times, uploaded in 25 languages on 33 Dove YouTube channels and viewed in more than 110 countries. The ad-film connected differently with millions of women who are considered as their own worst critic. The advertising campaign aims at fostering the self-esteem of women and changing the way they look at themselves. The tagline of the campaign says- You are more beautiful than you think!

On everyday basis, each one of are bombarded with unreasonable standards of beauty and perfections through advertisements, magazines, films and various other sources. We tend to avoid the fact that the artificial standards of beauty on-screen is way more different and artificial than beauty could ever be in reality. We have somewhat started undervaluing ourselves. Dove's real beauty advertising campaign- Sketches revolves around showing a contrast between how women see their beauty and how others see them.

FBI forensic sketch artist Gil Zamora sketches 40 women listening to the way they describe themselves. The sketch artist asks precise questions about how their chin, smile, cheek bones, hair, teeth etc look like. The second part of the campaign being when the same 40 women are sent to spend some time with each other without being aware about the sole purpose of the event. After some time, the sketch artist sketches the same 40 women again but this time listening to the way other people describe them. The results were shocking and intriguing at the same time. There were two sketches of each person with a complete different view, expression and perception.

The results of the ad-film documented women's reactions to their self-image and realization of how their low self-esteem is affecting many other elements of their lives. The whole campaign urges and inspires the women to rethink and reassess the way they see themselves. The fact that they looked happier and more beautiful from a stranger's point of view made them believe that they're all more beautiful than they think.

The advertisement evoked the right kind of emotions and became popular because it was based on true insights. Dove believes that when women look and feel their best, they feel happier. The FBI forensic sketch artist Gil Zamora said that he was completely thrilled and what stayed with him were the emotional reactions of women when they saw the composite sketches lying side by side. He felt how most of the brave women realized that they had a distorted self perception which affected their lives in significant ways.

Some of the advertisements lay a beautiful imprint on the lives of people. When I was being taught about advertisement campaigns, I got to know that the one of the sole purposes of an ad-campaign is to bring about a change. Dove's Real Beauty Campaign- Sketches has the power to make a beautiful change by making women feel empowered and beautiful from inside. Now is the time when showcasing these magical stories can evoke a positive thought to make this world a better place. Kudos to Dove for not setting any superfluous standards of beauty and making women believe that beauty lies in accepting thyself.
