Nike- Da Da Ding; just did it!
Thirty years ago, Nike marked the beginning of- Just do it! and two years ago, the brand did it, giving a push to the women to follow their passion and dreams with bravery and endurance. When it comes to sports and athletics, brands often showcase masculinity. This was challenged by Nike and successfully brought on screen by Wieden and Kennedy- Delhi in the year 2016. The ad-film broke the stereotype and showcased the relentless spirit of women to do the best in life through sports. It brought the passionate and determined girl squad on screen, from Deepika Padukone (badminton player) and Rani Rampal (national hockey player) to Ishita Malaviya (surfer) along with 150 more girls performing the various sports activities like football, cricket etc.
The communication head at Nike believes that the brand wishes to feature the unstoppable spirit of taking up sports in order to lead a healthy and balanced life. The brand aims to ignite a sports movement through young athletes performing excellently on ground and in life. The Ad film had challenged the gender based stereotype by casting the women and channelizing their inner power and strength through sports in the film. It validates how sports hold the power to make a person stand invincibly. Through this campaign, the brand aims to inspire more young females to take up sports and enhance their inner strength.
According to many experts; the ever changing role of women has been nurtured in the ad-film. This has always been a side of the story that needed to be told and advertisements are a way to reach out to more and more people, and inspire them to take an action. This ad-film had shown the sporty, inspirational and bold side of the female segment of our country as well as globally- that holds the power to inspire million others for their good. The on-going debates on equality have started getting showcased visually by producing content that is solely dedicated to empower the dauntless soul of women. This ad film had marked the beginning of women centric advertisements in the world of sports- 'Dream Crazier'- featuring the leading tennis champ, Serena Williams, is yet another ad-campaign reminding viewers that anything is possible. The ad campaign ends on a very strong note with the athlete quoting, "So if they want to call you crazy? Fine. Show them what crazy can do."
The brand definitely stands for something and this time, it managed to outshine again by celebrating womanhood- a state where women are mighty, strong and unbeatable.
